BALASORE also known as Baleswar or Baleshwar, is a city in the Indian state of Orissa in the eastern side.
Not a crowded place of tourists, still Balasore is a place of scenic beauty and some tourists’ attraction, and some historical moments that are also related to this place.
The major tourist’s attraction is Chandipur (16 kms). Chandipur on the Bay of Bengal is a famous sea resort with its mile long shallow beaches.
The tourists come here to bike deep in to the beach with bi-cycle. It is a unique beach. The tide comes to the shore only four times a day, at determined internals.
Chandipur is also launch station for sounding rockets.
But the main tourist’s attraction is the 18th century Kshirochora – Gopinath temple, situated at Remuna, about 14 kms from Balasore. The temple was built by Great King Langula Narasimha Dev, who also built the world famous Temple of Konark.
On 9th September 1915, while waiting for a ship-load of arms and ammunition dispatched by the German Embassy in Washington, Jatindranath Mukherjee or Bagha Jatin with four associates fought here heroically against a detachment of armed police, up to their ballet. This became a red-letter day in the history of India’s freedom movement.
If you wish to stay at some very much Indian small town like city, Balasore is a place to take the rest for a while.
The distance from Bhubaneshwar is 290 kms and from Calcutta is 190 kms.
Enjoy your vacation at India
